Since their humble beginnings, printmaking and scientific pursuits have walked hand in hand, both actively shaping our understanding of the world around us. The Museum continues this tradition through the production of affordable printed material and the preservation of traditional printmaking processes.
At the core of conservation is a physical understanding of the world around us.
How could one foster a desire to preserve a planet that they do not feel materially connected to?
It matters what matters we use to think other matters with; it matters what stories we tell to tell stories with; it matters what knots knot knots, what thoughts think thoughts, what descriptions describe descriptions, what ties tie ties. It matters what stories make worlds, what worlds make stories.

DESIGN AND PRINT SERVICES
Practicing printmaking is a craft rooted in the historic process of information dissemination. When we leaf through the history of prints, we see a story of authorship and authority. We see, in print, what images and stories were important enough to repeat over and over again. We can see how those ideas shaped what we believe to be true.
The first information revolution was in print.
The invention of the repeatable image and word dramatically changed the speed of information, having an equally dramatic impact on authorship and authority across the globe. Today, we stand wading in the soft waves of the next revolution. As digital information continues to increase the speed of repetition in our information ecosystem, I encourage us to consider what kinds of stories we repeat. What kinds of stories are you tuning into? What kind of stories do you want to tell?
